The end of an era for the Tri Cities.

In 2020, in the throes of COVID-19 lockdowns in the US, a little comedy scene was finally beginning to emerge in our region. Beginning with small open mic nights at your local bars and taverns that would gradually see more and more amatuer "comedians" gather together into the same spaces each week, before long this new cluster of local talent would gain a platform to hone in their skills in as real-life, bona fide Comedians. Of course, I am referring to the great Blue Ride Comedy Club of Bristol, TN.

Blue Ridge Comedy Club appeared out of nowhere in 2021, originally located at 620 State in Bristol, TN. Before then, you'd be lucky to find a comedy show to enjoy around here. If anyone thought simply finding a local comedy show was tough, then imagine how those all those local performers who needed a gig to perform at were feeling! Comedy in general never had much of a platform to start with in our little Appalachain region. The reality is, local venues that host live entertainment only ever went for the same types of acts: solo artist, band or musician. So when BRCC first opened its doors to a cluster of eager oddballs wanting to sharpen their craft (writing, storytelling, public speaking, and much, much more), many of us would go on to take the opportunity by the horns!

As many are aware, Blue Ridge Comedy Club promoted local talent annually with their "Bristol's Funniest" comedy competition. The first competition in 2021 introduced local comedic talent to the region, some of whom remain the Tri Cities most active comedians to this very day! I shared the priviledge of performing on the very 1st "Bristol's Funniest" with many talented local comics that I still know and occasionally have the honor of working with to date.

After 5 years of business, BRCC sadly announced it will close at the end of October 2026. This is difficult news. I feel for the many that have been involved in making the standup comedy scene in the Tri Cities what it is today. I am thankful for the opportunity and the platform to grow, and watch other individuals grow from stage fright into stage dominance as we conquered our deepest fears, regrets, and feelings of all types upon the Blue Ridge stage, and consequently elsewhere.

Goodbye, Blue Ride Comedy Club & Thank You For 5 Awesome Years!
